Planning a trip to the U.K. and starting in London but looking to expand and add some day trips from London? London is an amazing city with so much to see and do, but just a short trip away, you’ll find charming villages, historic castles, and even beautiful coastal views. Whether you’re a history buff, a Harry Potter fan, or just looking for a relaxing countryside escape, these day trips from London are a great way to add more variety to your itinerary.

These day trips cover a variety of interests and introduce you to more of the culture, history, and nature of the U.K. because there is so much more to see than just London. Going to these places outside of London is easier than ever with so many transportation options. Some of these are just a short train ride away but there are also so many fun guided tours that will take you to all of the best stops.

1. Oxford

Oxford is a wonderful choice for a day trip from London because of its close proximity and historical charm. There are many recognizable historic attractions here, as well as places Harry Potter fans will love.

Visit the University of Oxford and explore or take a tour to learn about its history. Take a tour of the Bodleian Library or Christ Church and admire the architecture and history present here.

There are many Harry Potter filming locations to explore here and Harry Potter-themed guided tours. You could also explore the historic Covered Market to get some food and do some shopping or take a trip down the river. Oxford has plenty to do and makes for a wonderful day trip from London.

2. The Cotswolds

3. Bath

Cambridge is a city known for the University of Cambridge and its historic charms. Visit King’s College Chapel, the Fitzwilliam Museum, or explore the Backs. Cambridge is a great city to wander around or take a guided tour to learn about its history.
